Most kids won’t need any lyrical cues for Let It Go, but may appreciate the help on such lesser hits as Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People and the gruff choral opening number Frozen Heart. This ain’t your daddy’s sing-along princess musical. A sing-along edition is out this week, its format updated for the modern era with a dynamic 3D snowflake replacing the utilitarian bouncing ball of yesteryear. After the film became the highest-grossing animation of all time, and its soundtrack sold 3.5m copies in the US alone, Disney searched high and low for further ways to exploit the film’s global success, and arrived at a familiar solution. The new millennium saw a decline in interest, largely because the studio’s musical output at the time consisted of self-conscious flops such as Home On The Range and The Country Bears.Ī decade-long hiatus ensued, broken like so many box-office records by last year’s wintry smash-hit musical Frozen. Your results may vary, but I thought it was an amazing experience - enough to thaw any Frozen Heart.Sing-Along Songs became one of Disney’s most enduring money-making ventures, straddling the VHS, laserdisc and DVD eras, and eventually expanding to include albums, audiobooks and film-specific sing-along videos for such 90s hits as Hercules and Aladdin. "DYWtBaS" makes me (a 43 year old man) a little glossy anyway, but I actually had a few tears listening to all of those strangers, young and old, and my family sharing in the experience of this amazing movie.Īgain during "Let it Go" the entire theater arose in song and at the end, when Elsa says the second instance of her iconic line "The cold never bothered me anyway" and the doors slam behind her a man a couple of rows behind me screamed out "Yeah!" and the whole audience burst into applause. Listening to those little girls (and my daughter and wife) singing along with all their hearts was magical. When "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" came on, the little girls knew every single beat, from the knock on the door."Elsa?" to the tick tock of the clock "Hang in there Joan." Adorable. In between the songs, they were absolutely silent. The second "Frozen Heart" came onscreen this group of little girls, all too young to read, started singing along by heart. The theater was 3/4 full with a smattering of adults and lots and lots of kids. A group of little girls, all in Disney princess costumes, about 10 of them, came and sat right behind us. I went to the Sing-Along with my wife, 9 year old son and 6 year old daughter.
